Paula Castellano
“The stage direction is a deep dive into the unknown, aiming to discover truth. For me, it’s about harmonizing different elements and characters to craft something truly unique and authentic.”
Born in Seville in 1990, Paula embarked on her journey in Fine Arts, completing her degree at the Complutense University of Madrid, along with Scenography studies at the Royal School of Dramatic Arts. She also holds a Master's in Theatre and Performing Arts from the same university.
Paula has sharpened her directorial skills through a year-long course with Carlos Tuñón and a three-month investigation and theater direction course with Marta Pazos. Her quest for knowledge continued with workshops at Réplika with Deflorian Tagliarini, Gob Squad at the Centro Dramático Nacional, Marcelo Díaz at Cuarta Pared, and a three-month course with Rakel Camacho at Escena 311. A four-year attachment to the Scuòla Conia in Cesena, Italy, under the tutelage of the Castellucci family, has been a cornerstone of her education.
Her professional journey includes assistant director roles in both theater and opera, such as in "The Wild Duck" directed by Carlos Aladro at the Teatro Abadía and "Così Fan Tutte" at the Teatro Maestranza de Sevilla, directed by Rafael Villalobos. Paula had the privilege of observing at the Teatro Real during rehearsals for "La Sonnambula" directed by Bárbara Lluch, with whom she currently assists in directing the new opera "La Regenta". The highlight of 2023 is her scholarship awarded by Teatro Real in the CRESCENDO program as a stage director.
Paula has not only directed but also designed the visual elements of "Dirección Gritadero" by Guy Foissy, premiered in Madrid, which earned her touring support from the Community of Madrid for two consecutive years. She has also debuted as a writer and playwright with "Gli esseri incerti," first introduced at Teatro Comandini in Italy. As a performer, she has been part of "Vivo Vivaldi" by Mónica Runde at Teatro Español and "Il trattamento delle onde" by Claudia Castellucci for the International Festival Escena-Patrimonio.
Her musical background is rich, with three years at the Plácido Domingo School in Madrid and further instruction from private tutors like Estefanía Canseco Dorado (Soprano at the Maestranza choir), Elier Muñoz (Baritone at the Teatro Real choir), and Tue de Stordeur (Tenor at the Royal Theatre of Copenhagen choir). Furthermore, she regularly trains in acting with Fernanda Orazi and Pablo Messiez and has taken playwriting classes from María Velasco, Antonio Rojano, Tomás Kartún, and others.
